I would like you all to consider BYSO's Academy and Select program. I have put together this email to address some questions I have received in regards to the Blaze academy and Inferno select programs.
First and foremost, I apologize for the late communication on last weeks open practices. As a trainer, I sometimes get sidetracked with the logistical stuff that is needed this time of the year. We are always looking for parents who would like to volunteer for a BYSO board position to help us in organization and communication.
Starting with the 2016/2017 soccer season we will be moving to the new US Youth Soccer age grouping. There will not be an August cut off date anymore, we will go purely based on birth year.
The Academy program is designed for those player 8-10 years old (born 2007, 08, 09) who are ready to get more out of their soccer experience. Our academy teams play against other academy teams from around CAYSA. We play half of our games at home and half of our games away. The academy program has licensed trainers and not volunteer parent coaches like our recreation program. We follow the U.S. Youth Soccer curriculum and focus on individual development and technical skill over tactics and game results. This program is NOT a younger version of select. We do not only look for players that are consider "good" recreation players. We want the players that are ready to learn a more advanced way to play the game and develop as a player, regardless of a players natural athleticism and current skill set. The academy program is NOT SELECT and does NOT HAVE A TRYOUT PROCESS. The only way we will turn a player away is if we do not have the numbers to make a team. I advise anyone interested in the program to talk to a current academy parent about their players growth and development.
We will be having open academy training sessions on Monday (5/16)
and Tuesday (5/17) at 5:30
. These training sessions are NOT tryouts and are NOT required to participate in our Academy observation day. This is simply a way for parents and players to see what an academy training session is like. There may be a higher player to trainer ratio than a normal training session, so please keep that in mind.
Academy Observation Day - The academy observation day will be May 27 at 5:30
. This is not a tryout and not a requirement to register for the Blaze Academy program. There is NO financial requirement for coming out to the observation day. We have an observation day so that in the event we get enough players to make more than one team at a particular age group, we will place players with like skills to aid in the development process.
Select soccer is for those players 11 years and older (born 2006 and earlier). The select soccer program is designed for those players that have the skill and commitment to play Division 2 or higher soccer. Select soccer has a tryout process and will cut players that can't be appropriately placed on a team that suits their skill set. Select has licensed trainers and training sessions that are based off of a structured lesson plan. Select games will be played against other CAYSA select programs, with half of the games being away.
We will be having open training sessions for Select age players on Monday (5/16)
and Tuesday (5/17) at 7:00
. These training sessions are NOT tryouts and NOT required to come out for select tryouts. This is simply a way for parents and players to see what a select training session is like. There may be a higher player to trainer ratio than a normal training session, so please keep that in mind.
This grouping DOES NOT indicate what team your player will be on, it is a way to keep the numbers manageable for evaluations.
Players 2007 and younger are not allowed to attend select tryouts.
